Week 3! Day 4!

Hello all! We had another fun and exciting day of summer school.
Today we started with our morning meeting where we practiced introducing ourselves and shared our favorite animal with the class. We then jumped right into our topic exploration by creating a desert habitat! We used our sand bin to recreate a desert that was very hot and dry. The students then took turns adding in different animals or plants to our desert. We enjoyed learning the names of the animals and hearing fun facts about them as they went in. We then moved our desert to the center stations so we could explore it more during centers.
We then had centers where students could move around at their own pace, work on different skills, and play with their new friends. One of our favorite centers today was the water color station because we could paint beautiful pictures and pin them up on the board for everyone to see.
During art we continued our topic exploration by learning about cactus and how important they are to desert animals. Some eat the cactus fruit, some drink from the flowers, some get the water from inside, and some burrow holes in to make homes for themselves. We then made our own cactus by gluing different size ovals together and adding on spaghetti pieces for our spikes. Just like in the desert all of our cactus were a little bit different. :)
During math we went on a scavenger hunt for hidden fish around the school! As we found the different color fish we practiced filling it in on a graph. We had a lot of fun searching for fishies!
We finished off our day with a cool dip in the pool!
Thank you all for a wonderful day today!
