Week 3! Day 2!

Hello all! We had another fun and exciting day of summer school.
Today we started with our morning meeting where we practiced introducing ourselves and shared our favorite color with the class. We then jumped right into our topic exploration. Today we learned about the different places that animals lived. We learned that animals live on land, in water or in the sky. Everyone helped me think of animals that call these places home.
We then had centers where students could move around at their own pace, work on different skills, and play with their new friends. One of our favorite centers today was the pattern block station because we could make our own designs.
During art we continued our topic exploration by making an animal mural. The students all drew and cut out their own animals and then sorted them based on where they lived. Some animals were a little difficult because they call two places home. For example a penguin spends a lot of time on land and in the water. We decided to glue these animals in the middle of our mural.
For story time today we read I Know a Rhino! It is a very silly book about a little girl and what she does with different animals. She takes mud baths with pigs, twirls with hippos, and has tea with a rhino! We had some very funny conversations about which ones we would do and which ones we would not. We all said we would not go on a picnic with a bear! At the end we found out her animals were all her toys, the kiddos were all impressed with the surprise ending.
During math we played roll and cover. Every student had a dice and an animal mat with different numbers. The students would roll the dice count the dots, and then cover the number on their mat. We had different tables with different items so students could choose what they wanted to cover their mats with. We had cubes, dabbers, marbles, play-dough, and colors.
We finished off our day with a cool dip in the pool!

Thank you all for a wonderful day today!
-Mrs. Cassie
