Week 3! Day 3!

Hello all! We had another fun and exciting day of summer school.
Today we started with our morning meeting where we practiced introducing ourselves and shared our favorite food with the class. We then jumped right into our topic exploration by creating an ocean habitat! We used the smart board to create a beautiful ocean scene. The students then took turns coming up and adding in different animals or plants to our ocean. We enjoyed learning the names of the animals and hearing their sounds as we added them in. Our favorite part was when we added in the blue whale because it filled up the whole entire screen! Wow!
We then had centers where students could move around at their own pace, work on different skills, and play with their new friends. One of our favorite centers today was the marble run station because we could build our very own maze! We found out that when we worked together we could make a much bigger maze than if we just worked alone.
During art we continued our topic exploration by listening to a very silly story called I'm the Biggest thing in the Ocean! In the story we met a very silly squid who thinks he is the biggest animal in the ocean. We soon find out he is not correct at all. After the story we made our own giant squid, some of them ended up being bigger than our friends in class! Once we all finished we decided our squid looked more like jellyfish because of the rainbow tentacles.
For story time today we read What is in the Deep Blue Sea? It is a very fun pop up book all about the animals in the ocean. We loved learning more about the animals that we had added to our habitat this morning. At the end of the book a giant octopus jumps out and it gave us all a rather big laugh.
We were all working so hard on our squid today that we did not have enough time to do our math activity as planned. We have decided to move it to tomorrow and are very excited to go on a scavenger hunt!
We finished off our day with a cool dip in the pool!

Thank you all for a wonderful day today!
