Week 3! Day 1!

Hello all and welcome to session three of summer school! My name is Mrs. Cassie and I am very excited to be the ELC teacher for the next two weeks. I taught the kindergarten red class at the ELC this past year so I am very happy to see so many familiar faces this week.
We started today by meeting our new friends in class and getting to know each other. We then had centers where students could move around at their own pace, work on different skills, and play with their new friends. One of our favorite centers today was the green kinetic sand bin because it was filled with dinosaurs. We loved making different scenes in the bins and telling our friends the story of what was happening.
For our topic exploration this week we will be learning all about animals and their homes. Today we talked about our homes and who lives there and the kinds of things we do in our homes. We then made fold-able books that show our homes on the outside and who lives on the inside. We talked about how animals would not be comfortable in our homes because they would not have the things that they need. We are excited to learn more about animal homes tomorrow.
For story time today we read ROAR! It is a very noisy counting book about a lion who is just looking for someone to play with. We loved getting to make the sounds with the animals in the book.
During math we played deal and make. Students pulled a number card and then made the number with play dough. Some students chose to make the number itself, some chose to show the number by making that many items with play dough and some students decided to do both.
After lunch we went for a very refreshing swim. We loved cooling down on such a hot day!
Thank you all for a wonderful day today!
-Mrs. Cassie
